Report on Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations 2 to 5 June 2022

Ryhill Parish Council worked together with Havercroft and Cold Hiendley Parish council and residents from both parishes. Members of the working group recognised how positive it was for the two parishes to be working closely together over this event.

The Queen’s Green Canopy- a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

Havercroft Parish Council donated seedlings consisting of hawthorn, blackthorn, silver birch and rowan. After the area by the playground in front of Rycroft Leisure had been rotovated, some children from Rycroft Youth and Community Centre and the “Young at Heart” Group worked together in planting the seedlings on the 7th March 2022.

A large number of tree saplings where are also obtained from Thornes Park. These, along with twelve established holly tree saplings purchased by RRAID Action Group, were planted on Ryhill Stray by RRAID members. This also helped to restore the area following the trespass and large-scale damage in August 2021.

Jubilee Celebration Fences- 27 May to 6 June 2022

This was a planned event in conjunction with “Ryhill Friends” and was an opportunity for residents of Havercroft and Ryhill to get involved in decorating their gardens, outdoor areas, etc., to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This event was advertised on social media and posters were also produced.

The working group also liaised with First Impressions, Ackworth to ensure that the hanging baskets were planted with appropriate flowers for the occasion and the adopters of the planters in the village were also encouraged to plant appropriate flowers.

Big Jubilee Picnic – 5 June 2022

This event was organized in conjunction with “Ryhill Friends” and the “Young at Heart” Group and was aimed at both parishes, focusing on the “Jubilee” generation (over 70’s). Rycroft Leisure agreed to let us use the field at the front of the centre to host a picnic/afternoon tea. Due to the inclement weather the picnic/afternoon tea was held in the Sports Hall.

Ryhill Parish Council funded 100 afternoon teas for the identified people and tickets were given out. Other parishioners were also invited to join in the celebrations and bring a picnic. Musical entertainment was also booked for the afternoon. The “Young at Heart” Group helped with the refreshments for the afternoon as well. For those unable to attend the event and had booked tickets, individual boxes of teas were delivered to their homes.

The afternoon was a huge success and appreciated by all who attended. A raffle was also held, arranged by the “Young at Heart” Group and raised £350 for Air Yorkshire Ambulance. Photographs are available for view at Rycroft Leisure. A big thank you goes out to all who helped with the celebrations.
